The Malawi Senior National Football Team regrouped yesterday to start peparations for next week’s 2020 CAF African Nations Championship qualifier against Eswatini and Interim coach Meke Mwase says there are no guaranteed places and players must work hard to earn their place in the flight to Mbabane.
All the players called into camp have reported for duties save for 11 from Nyasa Big Bullets, who have been excused following a special request from the club.
Mwase said the local players have a chance to prove their worth in the competition which is designated for players playing in local Leagues. “People always look at us coaches, but this is a two way process. As much as we take responsibility, the boys are the ones who play hence the need for them to work hard .
“Our recent results have not be satisfactory and Malawians are looking forward to see a change and that will happen only if everyone is committed to the cause. So I will not take passengers. Players must show they deserve to be National team players and they have the six days to do that”, said Mwase.
Mwase said he is impressed with how the boys performed on the first day.
“We don’t have the full squad at the moment but those who were present have shown good attitude and work rate and we hope that they will continue doing so for the rest of the days,” he said.
Malawi will start the challenge away on 20th April before hosting Eswatini on 11th May.
