Flames destiny not in their hands

The Flames’ Cosafa Castle Cup quarter-final qualification hopes are still alive though very slim following a goalless draw in another Group A match between leaders Tanzania and Angola.

The two teams shared the spoils at Moruleng Stadium in North West Province in South Africa on Tuesday.

Earlier on, the Flames had also played out a goalless draw against Mauritius’ Club M.

Tanzania’s Taifa Stars and Angola’s Palancas Negras are still tied at the top with four points apiece but the Tanzanians have a better goal difference.

Mauritius and Malawi are tied on one point but the Flames anchor the group due to an inferior goal difference in the four-team group.

The Flames now need to win their last game against Angola with a satisfactory margin and hope that Mauritius should beat Tanzania by a lower margin, quite a tall order.

In Tuesday’s match, the Flames put up a classic display with exciting Dalitso Sailesi, who was the man-of-the-match, turning on a vintage display but were not creative in the last quarter.

Flames coach Ronny van Geneugden said what was important was that the performance was satisfactory.

“We were able to keep possession and string passes which shows that they are adapting my philosophy,” he said.

The winner of the group will face South Africa’s Bafana Bafana.
