Artificial Turf at Kamuzu Stadium

Flames have a good record at the Kamuzu Stadium turf

Through the ‘Win In Africa, With Africa’ (WIAWA) project initiated by FIFA President Joseph Seppi Blatter and former South Africa President Thabo Mbeki, an artificial turf was installed at the giant Kamuzu stadium. The works started in August 2007 and were finished in February 2008.

The first match saw Flames beat Djibouti 8-1 in the 2010 Fifa World Cup qualifers.

The project has contributed to the many successes of the Flames more especially at home. The installation did cost a staggering US$700,000.

The pitch is now reaching the end of its life span and plans are underway to replace it.
