The Flames have been eliminated from the 2020 Chan qualifiers on away goal rule after drawing  1 all with Eswatini  at the Kamuzu Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Mhone scores the equaliser

The two teams drew 0-0 in  Manzini two weeks ago and the result on Saturday means the visitors progress to the next round where they will  face Angola.

After a goalless first half Eswatini broke the deadlock in the 52nd minute when Gamedze Sandile  found free space on the right and his shot just on the edge of the box gave keeper  Ernest Kakhobwe no chance.

Malawi responded with a quick  substitution as Mike Mkwate replaced Gastin Simkonda and the move  paid dividend as the Bullets diminutive midfielder engineered the Flames comeback.

Mkwate perfectly combined with Chimwemwe Idana to set Micium Mhone who calmly beat Eswatini keeper Mathabela Sandanezwe for the equaliser.

The Flames then gained momentum in search for the winner that would have sent them to the next round but the Swazi’s  defended well.

The visitors then resorted to time wasting tricks frustrating the Meke Mwase side until the final whistle.

Mwase said  his team failed to play their game due to the time-wasting tactics by the visitors.

“ If you go back and watch that game you will see that more than 15 minutes was wasted as the Eswatini players laid on the grounds.

“ We did not give the fans a good game. It is unfortunate that we are out of  this competition that would have exposed our local based players.,” said Mwase
